Heli Flyfishing

Thrill in a day's guided helicopter flyfishing on Northern BC's legendary salmon and steelhead rivers - they’re all completely yours, from glacier to estuary.

Stride down the lawn with your rod and waders to your waiting helicopter and in a moment you're up and away over a sparkling Minette Bay, the lodge a receding dot in the distance.

Today your guide is taking all four of you to some of his best fishing holes. He is armed with a box full of flies and you're looking forward to a memorable day's catch and release fly fishing on some of BC's loveliest mountain rivers.

As the helicopter’s whine dies away, the scene is one you've only dreamt of - high majestic mountains, grey rocky cliffs, almost vertical forests and the river - ah the river - clear tumbling ice cold water, deep quiet pools and sentinel rocks. Yours is the only party on the river from glacier to estuary - you can't wait to fish.

Heart pumping, you wrestle for what seems an age with a determined and writhing silvery steelhead. On finally beaching the beauty, you have a moment to examine it, and you notice with satisfaction and pleasure, a few sealice marking its recent passage from the ocean to your very own river – there’s not another fisherman within a million miles. Then lie back to catch your breath and relax for a moment; examine the lofty and ancient treetops, and admire this verdant and pristine wilderness, unchanged for ten thousand years. Finally clamber aboard again, and your helicopter whisks you away to explore another inviting pool in an undiscovered and tumbling mountain river. This really is the catch and release heli-flyfishing experience of a lifetime.

Should rainfall or winter snow melt cloud or flush the rivers, we can also offer enjoyable lake fishing for rainbows by helicopter or float plane.

In order to preserve our precious resource, Minette Bay Lodge practices only catch and release fly fishing.

The lodge provides fishing licences and 8 to 9 weight rods with reels, although we understand that most fly fisherman will want to bring their own fly or spin-fishing equipment. For more information please contact the lodge.
